The LCDI’s Student in the Spotlight for September is David Paradise, as sophomore here at Champlain. From Swampscott, Massachusetts, David works as a Digital Forensic Research Assistant at LCDI, where he is involved in tool comparison and data recovery. To get to know him better, we asked him a few questions:
- What would be your dream job after graduation?
- I’m not exactly sure what sort of job I would want after graduation, possibly working for the government in some way.
- What’s your favorite part about working at the Leahy Center?
- The best part about working at the Leahy Center is that I get to test out all of the different forensics programs and get familiar with them way before we even touching them in a classroom environment, giving me some actual work experience.
- Here’s the big debate: Mac or Windows?
- Windows is definitely the operating system for me to go to. I’m simply more familiar with it but my goal is to get used to Linux.
- What is your favorite thing to do outside of class and work?
- My favorite thing to do in my free time is to hang out with my friends, whether it’s going downtown or playing some games.
- What is the biggest challenge you have faced in your major?
- The biggest challenge I’ve faced so far in my major is the sense of being overwhelmed by some of the information that you have to learn.
- What’s your proudest moment?
- Some of my proudest moments are when I can use my knowledge I’ve learned at the LCDI to easily answer a question in class.
- What’s your favorite thing about your major?
- The best thing about my major is that I’m getting to know more about computers in general so if I ever have any problems I can fix them myself instead of dealing with 3rd party people to fix something.
- Where would you like to intern in the future?
- Interning for the FBI or something along the lines of that would be awesome.
- Is the forensic technology as advanced as television shows such as “CSI” portray?
- If only it was that advanced, but that would make the job easy and boring.
Currently David is working on a Tool Comparison project and assisting on two other projects involving Network Interrogation and Tool and ZeitGeist Forensics.
